After sell out seasons at Sydney Festival 2020, Asia TOPA and OzAsia Festival in 2021, CAAP's sumptuous night at the theatre is hitting the road. Touring to NSW and Victoria Double Delicious is once again set to deliver audiences double the experience, a unique opportunity to both hear and taste the story. Many thanks to our supports at Arts on Tour, Create NSW (Regional Touring Fund) and Australia Council for the Arts (Playing Australia).
And in exciting news... writer, comedian and host of ABC iView series Chopsticks or Fork? Jennifer Wong joins original cast members: writer and broadcaster Benjamin Law, kim chi master Heather Jeong, dancer/choreographer Raghav Handa and director/theatre-maker Valerie Berry, as they reveal the stories behind the significant dishes in their lives.
Sydney Festival presents in association with Contemporary Asian Australian Performance
Perahu-Perahu
"...a performance that will linger on in my dreams and my thoughts for days ... a rare and wonderful treat." - Broadway World
Stunning imagery and live music turn the traditional art form of wayang kulit on its head as Indonesian Australian artist Jumaadi and his collaborators reinvigorate the ancient storytelling technique of shadow play.
Perahu-Perahu, which means ‘boats’ in Indonesian, explores the precarious relationship between humans and the sea. Inspired by the history of travel across the waters separating Indonesia and Australia, Perahu-Perahu is a surreal and magical adventure into new lands, bizarre encounters, triumph and peril.
Immersing audiences in an exquisite world of images crafted from hundreds of intricate cut-outs and compositions blending traditional and contemporary music, this satirical and playful new performance work is a captivating fusion of old and new.
After its highly acclaimed premiere at OzAsia Festival 2021, Perahu-Perahu comes to Sydney Festival in January 2022. Don't miss this magical experience.

The first time Moya Dodd saw football on television at the age of 11, she was captivated. At 19 she was selected for the Matildas and represented Australia for almost 10 years. Appointed to the Executive Committee of international football association FIFA in 2013 until 2016, she was one of the first women to serve on the board in FIFA’s 108 year history. In 2016 she was overall winner in AFR's Most Influential Women. What's behind her remarkable success?
In The Backstories Moya Dodd takes us through three generations of her family – from the Chinese market garden her grandparents tended in Western Sydney to her rise through the ranks of world football.
Developed and directed by William Yang and Annette Shun Wah with original music composed and performed live by Gareth Chin, The Backstories provides a rare glimpse behind the public persona of Moya Dodd as she shares the experiences that have shaped her life.
The Backstories: Moya Dodd was originally commissioned and presented by the Adelaide Festival. It premiered in March 2017.
