Courtney Stewart is an actor, director, dramaturg, dancer and teaching artist. In 2021 she was awarded the Richard Wherrett Fellowship at Sydney Theatre Company where she will also work as dramaturg on Playing Beatie Bow by Kate Mulvaney. She will direct the premiere season of Michelle Law’s Miss Peony for Belvoir St Theatre.
Trained at Queensland University of Technology, Courtney has performed in a number of new Australian works such as Hamlet - Prince of Skidmark for STC, Neon Tiger by Julia-Rose Lewis and Single Asian Female by Michelle Law for La Boite and Belvoir St Theatre, and also performed for Queensland Theatre, Imaginary Theatre and in South Korea for LATT Children’s Theatre Company.
She was Assistant Director (AD) and dramaturg on STC’s production of White Pearl by Anchuli Felicia King, Assistant Director on Australian Graffiti by Disapol Savetsila (STC) and Double Delicious (CAAP) and directed Confessions of a Custard Melon Pan by Arisa Yura for Sydney Fringe Festival.
She has also directed numerous developments including Miss Peony and Top Coat by Michelle Law, The Zap and Orange Thrower by Kirsty Marillier, The Grocer and Barbaric Truth by Jordan Shea, No Pink Dicks by Moreblessing Maturure and White Pearl by Anchuli Felicia King.
Courtney was formerly Chair of the Equity Diversity Committee and is a current delegate to the National Performers Committee.
