Introducing…Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP)

Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP)

Welcome to the new business name of Theatre 4a Incorporated.  Previously known as Performance 4a, our new name clearly and concisely states what we’re about.

CAAP occupies a unique position as the only professional arts company dedicated to making exceptional contemporary Asian Australian work for all audiences.  We engender greater cultural diversity in Australian performing arts by producing cross art form theatrical works of the highest quality, in partnership with major festivals and flagship companies. Our highly acclaimed works include the Sydney Festival hits In Between Two and The Serpent’s Table (co-produced with Griffin Theatre Company), Yasukichi Murakami – Through A Distant Lens which premiered at Darwin Festival, Stories Then & Now (presented by Carriageworks) and Who Speaks For Me? (co-produced with National Theatre of Parramatta).

Through initiatives such as the Asian Australian Performance Directory, the Longhouse Networking Program and the Lotus Playwriting Project (in partnership with Playwriting Australia), CAAP will continue to develop, nurture and champion Asian Australian artists to take their place on main stages nationally and internationally.

Carriageworks

Along with our new name we are thrilled to be a resident company at Australia’s most exciting multi-arts centre, Carriageworks.

CAAP is led by Executive Producer Annette Shun Wah and managed by a voluntary committee comprising arts administrator Elaine Chia, Distinguished Professor Ien Ang, artists William Yang, Teik-Kim Pok and Jenevieve Chang, lawyer Alison Cook and honorary Treasurer Gary Williams. Meet the CAAP team.

Our vision is to inspire artists and audiences to demand, embrace and realise the full potential of a richly diverse and inclusive multicultural Australia.
